| Burford is often regarded as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds'. It is situated just off the A40 between Oxford and Cheltenham on the River Windrush. From the top of Burford Hill the view is stunningly beautiful looking across towards the rolling hills of the countryside. The Cotswolds is not only an area of outstanding natural beauty and a wonderful area to explore, it is steeped in over 6000 years of history. Burford is an elegant and historic coaching town renowned for its woollen trade during the 14th - 17th century. There are many buildings of both historical and architectural interest in the town. Some of these include the Church of St. John the Baptist, the Tolsey Museum, the Priory, Falkland Hall and the Warwick Alms Houses. The High Street is noted for its antique shops and excellent inns and restaurants. It was also recently voted "Best Shopping High Street" in Great Britain. There are some delightful walks along the River Windrush and through the picturesque villages and hamlets which surround Burford.
